Winter Programs

 

STARS offers daily lessons throughout the ski season for clients age 5 and up for all types of disabilities. Lessons include a instruction with a qualified instructor, adaptive equipment as necessary, and a lift ticket for use during the scheduled lesson time.

Lessons are scheduled for 3 hours or 7 hours 


winteradultprivate2012 1120004webThis 9-week race training program focuses on working with emerging athletes from the recreational level all the way up to the paralympic level. Clients who are interested in seeking a higher level of competition are taught about the value of exercise and nutrition while learning the importance of hard work and setting goals, The season starts with race training on November 30th followed by a Hartford Ski Spectacular development camp race in Breckenridge on Saturday, December 6th. Team members will participate in SSWSC Steamboat Cup Races. This program serves ages 8 and up. Must be at least 13 years of age to participate in the Hartford Ski Spectacular.

Cost: $350.00 is for coaching/training, lift ticket, administration/registration NASTAR fees. Travel costs to Breckenridge are not included.
Dates: Daytime training: 9:30am to Noon Sundays: Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14, Jan. 4, 11, 25, Feb. 1, 8, and 15. Evening training: 6:30 to 8:00pm Mondays/Thursdays: Feb. 2, 9, 12, 16, 19, 24, 26, Mar. 2, 5, 9, and 12

winteradultprivate2012 1120004webThe 7 week race training program for clients with cognitive disabilities is dedicated to the participant's physical, social, and psychological development through positive and successful experiences in competition. The program will culminate with the Western Areas Winter Games (regional competition): Friday, February 14th at Sunlight Ski Area in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This program serves all ages 8 and up. Training is Sundays from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.

Cost: $250.00 for all 7 days including lift ticket. Cost does not include travel, lodging, or participation in Western Areas Winter Games.
Dates: Jan. 4th, 11th, 25th, Feb. 1st, 8th, 22nd, and March 8th

Reservations required and advance booking preferred.

winteradultprivate2012 1120004webPrivate one-on-one adaptive lessons geared toward the individual and his/her disability. Qualified professionals instruct beginner to advance lessons to clients with adaptive needs. Reservations are required and advanced booking is preferred. Equipment and lift ticket are included during the lesson.

Half day lesson (3 hours) 9:00 am to 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Full day lesson (6 hours) 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Booked 15 days or more in advance:
Half day (3 hour) - $135.00
Full day (6 hour) - $270.00

Booked within two weeks:
Half day (3 hour) - $150.00
Full day (6 hour) - $300.00

This program is designed for independent skiers or riders that need assistance on the mountain.HPIM7873 This is not a lesson and there is no instruction. Participants need to purchase a separate discounted Adaptive Skier lift ticket from the ticket office. Non-adaptive equipment is included (based on availability).

Half day (3 hours) 9 am to 12 pm noon or 1:00 to 4:00 pm - $45.00
Full day (7 hours) 9 am to 4 pm - $60.00

Discounted Buddy punch cards of 10 or 20 are available. Please contact STARS for more information (non transferable).

paigeandgailskiing 2127webThis program aids children with special needs to participate in group lessons with their peers. STARS provides a specially trained volunteer to work within the group setting to provide added one-on-one attention. Clients must take one private lesson with STARS prior to inclusion program to ensure that he/she is ready to participate in a group.

Cost:
Ski Corp's Daily and Special Week Programs: Contact Steamboat Ski & Resort for their program costs and to reserve. Client is responsible for reservation and payment to SSRC (ph 877-783-2628 or 970-879-6111), as well as lift ticket. STARS does not provide lift ticket. Participant must also contact STARS with lesson date(s) so we can arrange pairing the student with a STARS volunteer. STARS volunteer is based on availability. During peak winter season dates volunteers may not be available for this service.

Ski Corp's Seasonal Programs (Trail Busters, Mini Busters, and Little Toots): Reservations and payment must be made to STARS. STARS does provide lift tickets to those who pay through STARS. Otherwise, client is responsible for obtaining lift tickets through Ski Corp.

winteradultprivate2012 1120004webAll Access is a 9 week program designed for anyone with a physical or cognitive disability. Participants will be paired with one or two trained instructors and ski within a group format based on abilities. Lessons are Saturdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Cost: $250.00 for all nine days including lift ticket. Lunch is not included.
Dates: Dec. 13th, 20th, Jan. 3rd, 10th, 31st, Feb. 7th, 21st, 28th

winteradultprivate2012 1120004webThis program is designed for children ages 5 and up on the autism spectrum. The program offers nine days of instruction and socialization in a fun environment with other similar children. They are grouped by ability on Sundays. Lessons are from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Cost: $250.00 for all nine days including lift ticket. Lunch is not included.
Dates: Sundays Dec. 14, 21; Jan. 4, 11; Feb: 1, 8, 22; and March 1, 8
